SoundFX
I finally learned about implementing sound FX in Unity! So I created a few sounds to start adding life to the game.
- Thrusters, soft landings, crash landings (EXPLOSION!)
- Next up: Background music (Good thing I have written a huge catalog of original music!)
New Crash Behavior / Screen
- 💥💥 EXPLOSION 💥💥
- This is the first ever explosion effect that I’ve thrown together in Unity. If learning Unity / Game Dev has taught me one thing, it’s that when you’re trying to visualize something new for the first time, just go for it! Get something on the page and accept / embrace that it will be pretty lousy to start with. Then, revise and improve it!
- The screen also fades to red and then black after a crash. So the whole experience feels more significant / game changing.
New Ship: MoonSpeeder // Testing New Movement Style
- If the first two ships move like helicopters, then the new Speedster is more like a fixed wing aircraft. In addition to the left and right thrusters found on the first two craft, this ship also features a large forward thrusting engine!
- I noticed as the map got bigger that flying long distances might be more fun in a ship designed with horizontal thrust in mind
